In the “Age-friendly Cities with Cooperation & Participation – The Asian Pacific Perspective Regional Conference”, initiated by HKU Sau Po Centre on Ageing, Centre Director Dr. Ernest Chui Wing-tak said HK higher educational institutions could focus more on goods and services development for the senior market in future.
Currently, academic programmes offered by HKU, CU, PolyU and LingU on elderly studies have placed more an emphasis on policies on medical, welfare and housing.
Professor Hiroyuki (Hiro) Murata of Tohoku University Smart Ageing International Research Center, who is an expert on Japan’s 50-plus market in Japan said there had been great demand in the senior market for goods and services. Professor Murata has contributed to the development of NTT DoCoMo’s Raku-Raku phone, the best-selling senior-friendly mobile phone in Japan. (Sing Tao Daily)
